We call out greenwash at Shell, Berkhamsted

EXTINCTION REBELLION DACORUM PRESS RELEASE

During COP fortnight on 20th November, a group from Dacorum XR visited the Shell garage on Berkhamsted high street. Sue Hampton, 68, of Berkhamsted, said, “Every time I have walked past the board proudly boasting that the garage is powered by renewable energy I have been astounded by the nerve of Shell. We held up a board calling out the greenwash involved and shared facts explaining why, in spite of this tiny step forward, Shell remains a climate criminal fuelling climate and ecological breakdown.”

Rev Colin Cartwright, 59 , of Hemel said, “Our boards highlighted, among other things, Shell’s expansion of oil and gas production, cuts to jobs in renewables and appalling devastation of the Niger Delta.”

Katrina Currie-Bruin, 34, of Berkhamsted added, “Shell is also guilty of misleading investors just as its ads have been banned for misleading the public.”

The group then unrolled a banner reading NO FUTURE IN FOSSIL FUELS along the pavement. Their protest was brief and caused no disruption.
