On Thursday 10th November some Dacorum Rebels protested at Harrods Aviation, a private flights company operating from Luton Airport. We stood with banners in front of the barriers, engaging drivers with leaflets and conversation about the climate crisis before stepping aside to allow them through. Many working there were supportive or understanding, including one pilot heading for COP27 in Egypt. The police were happy for us to stay for three hours, the security staff less so!
Then on the evening of 13th and afternoon of 14th November some of us took part in the national action in protest against the ongoing funding of new fossil fuel projects by Barclays, the dirtiest bank in Europe. The branch in Amersham was decorated with posters and crime scene tape; we visited the Hemel branch with a banner and sang, “We will, we will STOP YOU.” Over 100 branches were targeted nationally and some of the spicier interventions ensured coverage by the BBC.
Our Molly from Tring took part in the JSO M25 actions and is on remand in HMP Bronzefield for FOUR WEEKS before her trial date. We are supporting her with mail and emails and holding her in our hearts. Did you know that 36 JSO protesters are currently in prison, most before trial?
We will be back on Berko high street outside HSBC at 10 am next Saturday 19th November, with STOP ROSEBANK flyers.
All Dacorum Rebels, active and less so, are invited to meet up for a festive get-together at the Rising Sun in Berkhamsted at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 6th December.
If you are looking for a Christmas present for a climate-conscious friend, Demos Rising is a great anthology which opens with a poem by our Leslie. Or there’s Sue’s Still Rebelling for Life.
