As an author for the last eleven years, I’ve created a few activist characters, and I used to see my writing as my own activism – but that changed. Having been with XR from October 31st last year, I was asked to speak at Preston New Road fracking protest just before Christmas, and found myself saying that only one subject is now worth writing about: the climate crisis. That’s how FOR LIFE began.
It’s a novel translating my own experience with XR into fiction through a groups of characters, some of them activists and some deniers or avoiders. But I couldn’t wait for traditional publication so I originally released it chapter by chapter on my website, in something close to real time. The story ends after the April rebellion, during which I was arrested – like one of my characters.
Described as “compelling” and “powerful”, I hope FOR LIFE will make XR some money as a download thanks to a kind rebel who did the necessary techie stuff! I also hope it will inspire anyone who wasn’t there to join the rebellion.
